Line of severe thunderstorms headed towards Washington, DC, the evening of March 10, 2011. The various media outlets were hyping the flood watch, tornado warning, severe weather alert, and there was talk of high winds, "rotation" in the storm cells, hail, etc but when it finally hit DC it wasn’t so bad.

Q&A: A certain radar installation that is used to track airplanes transmits electromagnet radiation with a waveleng?

Question by : A certain radar installation that is used to track airplanes transmits electromagnet radiation with a waveleng?
A certain radar installation that is used to track airplanes transmits electromagnet radiation with a wavelength of 2.8 cm. … What is the frequency of this radiation? Express the answer in GHz.

Best answer:

Answer by knr
frequency of e.m radiaton f = speed C / wavelength lambda

= 3×10^10 / 2.8 = 1.07 x10^10 Hz = 10.7 GHZ (since 1 GHz = 10^9Hz)

It’s now Randy’s turn to watch for disturbances while Max pulls the microwave emitter.
Randy gets the real-time account of what Max is dragging the machine over.

***
What GPR does is it shoots microwaves into the ground. The microwaves then bounce off of materials at a certain distance. If there are items that are different than the surrounding area, it will send back an image that shows there is a disturbance underground.

Often times the only thing you can know from the reading is that there is a disturbance, it is rare that the type of disturbance can be definitively understood without ground proofing, or digging the item up. Such items could be anything from water mains to house features, old paths, burials, or maybe just rocks.

What GPR does is it gives the ability to pinpoint what might be an interesting enough feature to warrant excavation.

Where is the best place to put a Radar detector?

Question by Shawn: Where is the best place to put a Radar detector?
I saw some people put their radar detector up on the windsheild and some bottom. tell me the best location to put one to avoid police detection and better reception.

Best answer:

Answer by Summer S
You want it in the windshield to get the best reception. I say put it right in the middle because it’s the easiest place to put it. If you put it lower on the windshield, cops won’t be able to see it. If you really think about it though, cops (or anyone for that matter) cannot see inside your windshield. My friend has a radar detector in his car and I’m none the wiser to it just at a passing glance. And the more you think about it, if you are going fast to avoid the cops, they won’t see it anyway! Put that sucker smack-dab in the middle!
